First Generation Ford Mustang Seats

Classic Mustang Seats

The American automotive industry dates back to the 1890s. While countless manufacturers and brands have hit the market over the years, few models caused as much commotion as the Mustang. Ford unveiled this sleek, powerful compact sports car at the New York World’s Fair in 1964, and it immediately captivated car buyers across the U.S. From Ford’s perspective, the Mustang was the giant automaker’s most successful vehicle launch since it introduced the Model A 37 years earlier.

The first Mustang generation, which covers the 1964.5-1973 model years, remains the most successful in the pony car’s illustrious history. Total U.S. sales approached 3 million units during the period, and Ford sold an impressive 1.29 million Classic Mustangs during the first three model years alone.

While the 1966 version is the all-time top Mustang seller, many pony car enthusiasts view the 1967 models as the ultimate automotive design of the 1960s. Their more aggressive appearance thrilled car enthusiasts everywhere. That year also marked the release of the GT500, featuring a robust 428-cubic-inch V8 engine that produced an impressive 355 horsepower.

Choose Us for Vintage Mustang Seats

The seats in any vehicle take plenty of abuse over decades of driving and storage. Even with meticulous care, wear and tear will occur naturally. Plus, even infrequent driving or parking in the sun can expose your cabin to fading, dirt, oil and food and drink spills.

While this damage only detracts from your first-generation Mustang’s seats’ appearance, it’s time to restore your pony car to its original glory. What’s more, you and your passengers may feel less comfortable than you were years ago. If so, you can pair seat covers with seat and foam replacements for the best and most cost-effective solution in the long term.

Our Selection

Top Flight Automotive carries a wide selection of Classic Mustang bucket seats and other products for every first-generation model year. Whether you’re one of the fortunate few to own one of the original 1964.5 models, a 1968 Bullitt fastback, a 1969 Mach 1 or any of the other vehicles that comprise this groundbreaking automotive era, we have what you need.

Our inventory includes individual components such as frames that provide the foundation for the rest of the seat. You’ll also find an assortment of seat cushion foam, backs, covers, tracks and upholstery kits. You can even make your Mustang safer for yourself and your passengers by adding or upgrading the seat belts. Headrests, headrest covers and complete cover sets are also available.

Besides purchasing seats and seat components, you’ll also need the right products to install them correctly. To help you complete your Classic Mustang seat installation project, we also offer a wide selection of hardware and accessories. Examples include hinges, brackets, frame screws, adjustment knobs, latches and handle screws. These parts are compatible with specific aftermarket products, ensuring the right fit and making your job much easier.

When to Replace Your Classic Mustang Seats

If you own a Classic Mustang, odds are your sport model has racked up some miles. Sitting inside the cabin regularly leads to slow deterioration, so it’s important to keep your eyes open for signs it’s time to replace 1965-1973 Mustang seats.

1. Parts of Your Seats Are Broken

Drivers should be able to make adjustments to seats for visibility, support and a comfortable experience behind the wheel. When your Classic Mustang seats resist moving, it’s best to shop the Top Flight Automotive site for replacement hardware and tracks.

Shop our inventory for Classic Mustang seat parts to reconfigure your existing seats or change assemblies out for new ones.

2. You Feel Little Support

It’s nice driving a 1965-1973 first-gen Mustang when the seats are comfortable. Drivers should feel support from the lower back up to the neck. When you get inside your vehicle’s cabin and the seats feel hard or flat, it might be time for a replacement.

3. Seats Have a Worn Appearance

Classic Mustang seats that fade or are unable to hold their shape need work. The seats inside your vehicle contribute to your Mustang’s overall value. Taking the time to upgrade from your stock seats gives you something to anticipate each time you open vehicle doors.

4. Your Seat Covers Show Rips and Tears

Tears in your 1965-1973 Classic Mustang seats expose the interior foam. The seat foam can break apart, absorb moisture and sweat, and leave your cabin looking dirty.

Adding new Mustang seats to first-gen vehicles gives vintage sports cars a more up-to-date appearance. You can reimagine your Classic Mustang by using seats that have the materials you like best.

5. Mustang Seats Have a Strange Odor

Your Mustang’s cabin should smell pleasant. It’s common for outdated seats to smell like sweat or mold — especially if your vehicle had another owner before you. Replacing your Ford Mustang seats is a proactive way to make the cabin more comfortable, whether you’re driving solo or with passengers.

It’s a good idea to change out your Mustang seats for new ones when the smell of mold and mildew is present in the cabin. Replacing seats that have been exposed to inclement weather or drink spills is effective in eliminating harmful bacteria.

6. Seat Foam Breaks Apart

There may be cases where the seat upholstery in your first-gen Mustang looks fine but seat foam splits underneath. Replacing the driver and passenger seats in valuable vehicles like the first-generation Mustangs allows you to prioritize relaxation and support while you’re driving.

Restore Classic Mustang Styles With Top Flight Automotive

The Top Flight Automotive team loves every first-generation model. Classic Mustangs evolved over the course of production, becoming faster, more upscale and more exclusive each year. Celebrate the rich history of the Ford Mustang when you restore cabin seats in the pony cars below:

1965 Classic Mustang Seats

Classic Mustangs are special for collectors because the famous Carroll Shelby was involved in the design process. Early 1965 Mustangs could compete in a race track setting, and select vehicles like the GT350 were available with blue and white accent stripes. What’s more, Fastback builds caught racing fans’ attention because certain configurations were equipped with 225 horsepower.

These cars were so popular that Ford assembled 550,000 Mustangs for the 1965 production year. Buyers looking to customize their rides could order materials inside the cabin in shades like blue, red, aqua, ivy gold, black and white.

1966 Classic Mustang Seats

Sales were on the rise for the 1966 Mustang. At first glance, these vehicles look similar to 1965 models, but a newly designed front grille gave consumers something to look forward to. Vinyl seats included within 1966 Classic Mustangs came in more colors than drivers had access to when the pony car brand first launched. Buyers could order 1966 Mustang models with over 30 different interior trim combinations.

1967 Classic Mustang Seats

By 1967, Mustang coupe and convertible models were increasing in size. Wider vehicles left room for big-block engines that delivered upwards of 320 horsepower. Advancements like power disc brakes and overhead consoles were huge selling factors for consumers.

The 1967 Mustang was available in fewer interior colors compared to 1966 runs. However, the fan-favorite interior shade, Ivy Gold, was still around.

1968 Classic Mustang Seats

Collectors and restoration fans who enjoy a comfortable driving experience own 1968 Classic Mustangs. Vehicle designers included an AM/FM radio and a handful of new safety features within the cabin. Mustangs were common on the road during this era, so interior colors including Dark Red and Saddle were available for mid-generation vehicles to provide extra flair.

Fixing up a 1968 Mustang could leave you with a rare addition to your showroom. Region-specific models like the Mustang California Special and the Mustang High Country Special (sold in Colorado only) have high resale values today.

1969 Classic Mustang Seats

Ford fanatics remember the 1969 Mustang models for the debut of the Boss 302, Boss 429 and Mach 1. It was impossible to ignore all that the Mustang brand created at this time. Top Flight Automotive caters to high-performance Classic Mustang variants. Whether you have a track car in your showroom or a base model from 1969, we’ll ship you the seat components and covers you need in all signature shades.

We have seat covers and seat foam for the first-generation Mustang seats. Reupholster high-back bucket seats to match your style preferences.

1970 Classic Mustang Seats

The Ford Mustang was subject to few body changes in 1970. Boss and Mach 1 models would return, and all vehicles arrived standard with high-back bucket seats for a true racing appearance. More exciting changes took place inside the cabin of the 1970 Mustang with some new interior colors to choose from. Consumers had options for vinyl seats in colors like Ginger and Vermillion Red. Find replacement seat covers in these hues when you browse the Top Flight Automotive shop.

1971 Classic Mustang Seats

The main differences between the 1971 Mustangs and the previous models are that the new vehicles were longer, wider and featured a bigger wheelbase. This release was a restyling year for the Ford Mustang, which included interior changes for optional power windows. As for vehicle seats and trims, we saw most colors from the 1970 models make a comeback for the 1971 Mustang. Medium Green seats were an exciting new choice for the Classic series.

1972 Classic Mustang Seats

Boss models disappeared from the Mustang lineup in 1972. The Ford Motor Company put all of its energy into optimizing the Mustang coupe, Mustang Grande and Mach 1. A fair share of interior designs accompanied 1972 Mustangs. The most popular seat colors included in these pony cars were black, blue and white. These vinyl material shades could complement all exterior paints offered during 1972, ranging from Bright Lime to the special order Playboy Pink.

1973 Classic Mustang Seats

The last year of the Classic Mustang generation was one to remember. 1973 marks the last time Ford would create a Mustang convertible until 1983. Buyers could order unique upholsteries for each Mustang model during this year. Hundreds of Mustangs left the Ford factory with the well-known Avocado interior shade that’s hard to find at car shows and museums today.
